Tour summary

A stunning 3-day combination desert adventure tour of Moroccan Sahara starting from M’Hamid el Ghizlane. An ideal introduction to trekking in the Sahara. With your own camel and local guide, you’ll experience the wilderness of the Sahara at the gentle pace of the dromedary and set up camp under the African stars. You’ll then be picked up in a 4x4 to continue off-road across dried river beds and stony plains in our 4x4 to reach the our very comfortable camp at Erg Chigaga - the highest dunes in this part of the Moroccan Sahara. Ideal for families, students, couples and friends. Suitable for those with a limited time available and accessible to all ages and all fitness levels.

Please note: All our Morocco tours can be customised to allow extra days for shorter daily car journeys, extra activities, relaxation days, exploration days etc. We can also adapt tours to connect with different start/end locations in Morocco. Day-to-day tour itinerary

Day 1

M'Hamid - wild desert camp

After breakfast, meet your camel and trek from your hotel/guest-house in M’Hamid to the dunes of Mezouiria, stopping for lunch in a shady oasis. Evening time set up camp for dinner and sleep under stars. NB we can arrange accommodation in hotel or guesthouse for the night before your desert trek starts.

Stay: Desert camping in 2-man tent or under the stars

Meal plan: Dinner cooked on open fire by your guide

Day 2

Wild desert camp - Sacred Oasis - Erg Chigaga dunes

Morning trek with camels (or on foot) from Mezouiria wild camp towards Sacred Oasis (for BBQ lunch). Our driver then comes out to meet you and you continue in 4x4 vehicle to the magnificent high sand dunes of Erg Chigaga where you spend the night in our very comfortable nomad-style bivouac desert camp. You can climb the highest dune for a magnificent sunset view and even try your skills at sandboarding! The night is spent in our very comfortable bivouac desert camp at Erg Chigaga, where you will be looked after and entertained by our team of local nomadic ‘Blue Men’ - all from families indigenous to the region. Around the campfire after a delicious dinner, you can play the drums, share songs, stories and jokes or just gaze at the blanket of stars overhead. Tents are private with up to 4 people per tent, they are woven from camel wool and have proper beds and comfortable mattresses.

Day 3

Erg Chigaga - M'Hamid

After breakfast at camp in the Erg Chigaga dunes. You head off-road in 4x4 to return towards the village of M’Hamid. You cross small dunes, stony desert and through the dried river bed of the Draa River. Along the way are strange-looking desert plants, tamarisk and acacia trees until reaching the edge of the village, where the palm trees mark the route of the river leading into the Draa Valley. On reaching M’Hamid around 11.00 a.m. you can collect your baggage (which we will store securely for you on Day 1) and continue your travels. NB We can help with onward travel arrangements if required.
