This unique holiday spans some of Morocco’s favourite Atlantic coastal reaches as well as the mystical city of Marrakech, and offers plenty of time for outdoor activities, culture, pampering and relaxation. Explore the funky medina and picturesque fishing port of Essaouira, hang out at the surfing hotspot of Taghazout where yoga is also on the menu, wander into the Paradise Valley, then head south through the wetland wildlife sanctuary of Souss Massa to spot flamingos before soaking up the sun at our beachside boutique hotel in Mirleft. The trip culminates in the exotic ‘red’ city of Marrakech, where you’ll spend time in a beautiful traditional riad in the old medina and where you can enjoy a guided historic tour of the fascinating souks, palaces and gardens. Day-to-day tour itinerary
Day 1
Arrival Marrakech - Transfer to Essaouira
Meet & greet at Marrakech airport or pick-up from your hotel/riad. You transfer by road in private 4x4 vehicle directly to the Atlantic fishing port of Essaouira - a picturesque and historic medina with Portuguese influences architecture, fishing harbour, long sandy beach, charming cafes, art galleries, shops and ramparts. On arrival in Essaouira you check in to your boutique riad inside the old medina. The rest of the day is free for your own exploration and to discover the wonderful fresh fish served at the outdoor grills near the port where we recommend you enjoy your first evening meal. N.B. We can also arrange transfers from Essaouira or Agadir airports if this is preferable

Day 2
Essaouira - free day for activities
The day is free for you to fill with activities or simply to relax and soak up the chilled-out vibe of Essaouira’s funky medina. We can arrange surfing, wind-surfing or kite-surfing instruction at the beach. You can also opt for horse-riding, quad-biking, hiking or a cookery class. Alternatively, let the kids go play and we can organise a parent’s treat of a sumptuous oriental bath and soothing massage with essential oils. The day is a blank canvas waiting for you to colour it with your dreams. We will make those dreams happen - just tell us what you want at the time of booking. In the evening we suggest you try one of the many cosy Moroccan restaurants in the medina, some which have live traditional gnawa* music (usually Saturdays only). We are happy to recommend places for entertainment and for the best local cuisine. *Gnawa music is a hypnotic and relaxing spiritual music typically found in Essaouira and it evolved from sub-Saharan Africa. It involves musicians in colourful costumes, drumming, dancing and a rhythmic bassline - it is loved by Moroccans both young and old. See Moroccan Music

Day 3
Essaouira - Imessouane - Taghazout - Atlantic Coastal drive
Morning departure from Essaouira as we head south along the Atlantic Coast. The scenery is rugged with deserted beaches and rocky outcrops. South of Essaouira (weather permitting) we will stop to visit the secluded beach of Imessouane, which is a favourite of locals and little-known by tourists. The facilities are basic, but if the weather is good it’s a lovely place for a dip in the ocean and a drink at one of the surf-shacks. We then continue along the coastal road, passing popular surfing locations such as Sidi Kaouki, Cap Sim, Anchor Point, Killer Point, The Source and Banana Beach. You will stop for photos and lunch along the way. By end early afternoon you arrive to our luxury resort located right on the waters edge at Taghazout, far from the noise of other crowded beaches and family holiday-makers. The rest of the afternoon is free and you may meet your yoga & surf instructors to discuss your plans for the next two days. Option to join a Sunset yoga class. Dinner is served under a Berber tent on the beach or in the main lounge restaurant. Food is all locally sourced and organic.

Day 4
Taghazout beach - yoga, surf and spa day
A combination package of surfing instruction (morning) followed by an afternoon of yoga and/or spa treatments. As a family you can choose what you want to do and we will arrange it for you. The rest of the time is yours to relax and enjoy the stunning faciltiies, fitness room and ocean views. Lunch is not included today, but you can eat at the a la carte restaurant in the hotel.

Day 5
Taghazout - Paradise Valley excursion
The morning is free for you to enjoy your planned surfing or yoga activities. You may also choose to relax all day at the beach resort, however at around 12.00 noon we invite you to set off on a 6 hour excursion to one of Morocco’s wonderful beauty spots - the white-washed Berber village of Immouzer. The drive takes you up through a lush palm-filled gorge, with terraces of juniper, olive and almond trees. It’s known locally as Paradise Valley as it’s tucked away like a secret Garden of Eden. The wild rosemary and thyme means there is delicious honey produced here as well as argan trees producing the prized argan oil. At Immouzer you will hike through countryside to discover crystal clear pools and waterfalls inviting you to take a dip! A guide will walk with you and we will pack a picnic for you to take to eat at the edge of the rocks. You return to your boutique hotel in Taghazout at around 18.00hrs in time to watch the sunset on the ocean and an evening yoga session before dinner.

Day 6
Taghazout - Agadir - Souss Massa National Park - Mirleft - Atlantic coastal drive
Morning departure from Taghazout and your coastal tour continues to the south, passing through the main seaside resort of Agadir where you can stop for refreshements on the promenade if you wish. South of Agadir is the nature reserve of Souss Massa National Park which provides a habitat for an enormous array of birdlife. You will enter the Reserve and meet our local guide and bird-watching expert who will point out some of the species such as Bald Ibis, spoonbills and flamingos. Lunch in the park with our guide, before continuing the journey in 4x4 along the rugged Atlantic coastline to Mirleft. Dinner at your boutique guest-house in Mirleft, with infinity pool overlooking the beach.

Day 7
Mirleft - free day
A free day to totally unwind and enjoy the beach, the pool and the ocean views in Mirleft. Your tour driver is at your disposal and in the afternoon will take you to the beach of Legzira, just a few kilometres south, which is famous for its sea-worn arches carved by Mother Nature from the red rock and its vast sandy stretch of beach. The light is amazing at the end of the day as the sun transforms the sandstone into burning shades of sienna and mauve. In the afternoon we can also arrange add-on activities such as quad-biking, horse-riding or even fishing. Just tell us what you want to include at the time of your booking. You may also wish to visit the village of Sidi Ifni, or even Tiznit medina which is famous for its silver jewellery, Dinner is served back at the hotel. Try to get back for sunset to enjoy the magnificent view over the ocean from the terrace.

Day 8
Mirleft - Marrakech (via Agadir)
Today you complete the circle of your coastal family tour and return to Marrakech. The route takes you along the shore as far as Agadir, then via motorway to Marrakech. A total journey of about 6 hours, stopping in Agadir for lunch on the beach (not incl). You check in to a charming traditional riad (boutique or hotel if you prefer) in Marrakech by around 6.00pm. You are free to make your own plans for dinner in Marrakech, or we can reserve for you at the riad for when you arrive (24hrs notice required).

Day 9
Marrakech - guided visit
In the morning an official city guide will meet you to take you on a half-day private tour of Marrakech’s key historic attractions.You will visit it;s labyrinth of souks, mosaic tiled palaces, the Koutoubia Mosque and the ever entrancing UNESCO World Heritge Site, the Place Jemaa el Fna with its daily cavalcade of storytellers, musicians, acrobats, sideshows, food-grills, juice-sellers and snake charmers. Your guide will also introduce you to some of the more ‘local’ quarters where you can see animal skins being auctioned, community bread-ovens, artisans and carpenters etc. The tour usually ends at the Place Jemaa el Fna and the rest of the day os free for your own shopping and sightseeing. We suggest you make a trip back to the Place Jemaa el Fna to sample food from the street grills, or we can arrange a provate guided tour of the main square for an evening "strolling buffet" where you taste all that Marrakchis love to eat! N.B. you may wish to add on extra days in Marrakech to explore the city or enjoy some of the add-on activities available in the area such as: cookery-class; camel-trekking and quad-biking in Palmeraie; golf, hammam/spa treatments etc. Or you may wish to add on one of our Day Tours from Marrakech.

Marrakech - departure
