Cultural Tours Handcrafted in Morocco

SheherazadVentures - your Moroccan adventure begins...

SheherazadVentures s.a.r.l. is a registered travel company based in Morocco. It was founded in 2009 by English radio broadcaster, Rachel Blech, in partnership with the Hajja family, from the Moroccan Sahara - specialists in desert tourism. Our focus is on providing creative, fulfilling and personalised adventures throughout the Kingdom of Morocco.

Our Morocco adventure holidays are ideal for English-speaking independent travellers, groups of friends, families and small groups of all ages.

From start to finish, our English-speaking ground team are committed to ensuring that your adventure holiday runs smoothly and safely, bridging the cultural gaps where needed, yet giving you the freedom to explore and make your own discoveries…

The main difference between our travel company and the myriad of others in the marketplace is our commitment to developing a range of unique community-focussed ‘hand-on’ holiday experiences and active adventure holidays promoting cultural exchange and responsible tourism. Sharing our passion for music, arts, the desert environment and Moroccan culture, our adventure holidays are aimed at like-minded travellers of all ages. Our Morocco adventure tours cover the whole of the Kingdom of Morocco, whereas our cultural exchange projects and Special Interest arts holidays are mostly centred in the South of Morocco at the door of the Sahara desert where we liaise directly with local community leaders.

What sets SheherazadVentures apart from the rest?

  • Grass-roots knowledge and local contacts in the Southern Valleys and the Sahara desert owing to our close personal ties with that region.

  • Rachel Blech, director, writes for several major international travel publications (Fodor’s, Time Out, Footprint) and has extensive up-to-date local knowledge giving the inside track on the best new restaurants, boutique hotels, private museums, attractions and cultural events across Southern Morocco and Marrakech.

  • As an English-Moroccan company, we understand the needs, fears and expectations of the traveller from a Western perspective, as well as offering local expertise to bring you an authentic taste of Morocco.

  • Across the Kingdom of Morocco we have a network of tried and trusted local guides and experts who can offer anything from mountain trekking in the Middle Atlas, wine-tasting in Essaouira, to bird-watching in the Souss Massa National Park on the Atlantic Coast.

  • Our unique tour itineraries have been thoroughly researched and designed by bringing all this expertise together to create truly special, innovative and cultural Morocco adventures.

  • SheherazadVentures clients are always accompanied by a local English-speaking tour assistant in addition to their dedicated driver, to ensure their safety while travelling. We are one of very few companies that provide this.

  • We organise private events and parties in the Sahara desert based at our bivouac camp in the majestic and remote dunes of Erg Chigaga. We can include traditional music entertainment, catering, whole-roasted lamb mechoui, camel-rides and even a fun casino.

  • SheherazadVentures offers full destination management services and ground services to travel agents. We have worked with Australian, English, Irish and Spanish travel agents ensuring the best care for their clients and group tours.

  • As part of our community-cultural ethos, we invite contact from visiting artists and arts or community groups who wish to bring their activities to share with the local population in the Sahara desert village of M’Hamid el Ghizlane. SheherazadVentures will facilitate all logistics and community interactions.

Are you a 'traveller' or a 'tourist'?

Rachel Blech

‘Tourists’ tend to migrate in large herds, seeking a kinder climate and exotic souvenirs, but yet remain fearful of the natives and their customs. Though they are naturally inquisitive, they are happy to observe from a distance through the toughened glass of a coach window and are satisfied to venture forth on well-worn paths, where previous ‘travellers’ have pioneered the way ahead.

‘Travellers’ are risk-takers, they forage for themselves in small groups or even independently. They seek knowledge and experience at grass-roots level to get a deeper understanding of the country they are exploring. They gladly engage with the local language, people and traditions, returning home with memories etched upon their hearts.

We at SheherazadVentures are seeking out the ‘tourist’ who is on the cusp of becoming a true ‘traveller’ – those adventurous souls who want to feel the beating pulse of the country they are visiting, who want to make a difference to the communities they touch, but also want to be sure that they are in safe hands as they make the leap…
