Day tour itinerary

Day 1

Marrakech - Cascades d'Ouzoud - Imni Ifri - Marrakech

The magnificent Cascades d’Ouzoud are a popular day excursion for both Moroccans and tourist who want to escape the frenzy of the medina and head to one of Morocco’s areas of outstanding natural beauty. The waterfalls are about a 3-hour drive from Marrakech and located in the Central High Atlas Mountains, 150 km from Marrakech. A series of three majestic terraced waterfalls tumble from a height of 330 ft amongst lush greenery and oak trees where you can sometimes see Barbary apes in the branches. Climbing down the steps carved in the rock to the olive treelined Oued Ouzoud canyon, you pass souvenir stalls, restaurants and cafes which make a refreshingly cool place for lunch. On the canyon floor you can see the cascade of water hit the river and a rainbow often forms in the mist rising up from the water. Early evening offers a particularly special sunlight to photograph the rainbows. On summer days many visitors go swimming in the pools or alternatively you can take a raft across the river and thrill to the roar of the waterfalls.

Another outstanding natural wonder in this region of the Central High Atlas is the natural bridge at Imi N’Ifri. You will visit it on foot during the return journey when we travel via the walled medina village of Demnate. Climb down from the road bridge to the river in the gorge and scramble over boulders to the bridge which stands high up and cathedral like with imposing stalactites which are the result of erosion from powerful river flows over the centuries. Pass through the tunnel lined with stalactites and climb back up to the bridge. At the end of the afternoon you drive back to Marrakech (approx. 3 hrs) having seen two of the great natural wonders of Morocco.
