Day tour itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech-Asni-Imlil-Toubkal National Park-Aroumd-Marrakech
You depart in private 4x4 from your hotel in Marrakech at around 9.00am. You head out into the foothills of the High Atlas for a magnificent active day excursion in the Imlil Valley area of Mt. Toubkal National Park. Along the way you will pass through the town of Asni where there is a lively local souk/market on Saturdays (you will stop here for about half an hour on route if time permits). The road then heads up into the Imlil valley with great views of the summit of North Africa’s highest mountain - Mt. Toubkal - in the distance. The road ends in the Berber village of Imlil, which is a busy hub for trekking and climbing expeditions (1,740mtrs altitide). Here you meet your local mountain guide and the mules (if requested) who will then lead you upwards into the next valley to reach the village of Aroumd at 1,967mtrs altitude. Along the way you climb quite steeply, passing streams of snow-melt waters, small terraced fields with dry stone walls, hillside tracks shaded by walnut trees and spectacular views over the Imlil valley below. The village of Aroumd sits perched on a hilltop and you enter the family home of your guide to enjoy a hearty lunch of tajine or couscous, served with salads and fresh fruit. After relaxing and looking out over the rooftops of the village, or meeting various memebers of the family for a glass of mint tea, you then descend back to Imlil along an easier mule-track, passing via the Kasbah du Toubkal and you rejoin your driver at around 4pm. You drive back to Marrakech passing through orchards of apple, cherry and apricot trees and then to the agricultural plains of olive and orange groves, reaching Marrakech at around 6.00pm after a thrilling Atlas Mountains excursion from Marrakech.
